The EPiServer content management system was selected as the primary website platform. EPiServer supported all of the stipulated content publishing needs out-of-the-box. Furthermore it was designed to support rapid custom development to ensure specific functionality could be more easily tailored. ARES worked with the incumbent advertising agency to develop a website that would appeal to a diverse visitor base. Subtle use of Flash animation, contemporary design, intuitive navigation and clean layout are all notable characteristics of the Diabetes Australia new website. Through a support agreement ARES continues to update and revise the website to accommodate emerging Diabetes Australia initiatives. Due to the increasing prevalence of diabetes the website will play a critical role in making Australia a healthier place to live into the future.

ARES’ response to the challenge involved focusing on ensuring the content authoring systems, infrastructure, documentation and training was geared for the optimum outcome. The intranet content navigation was overhauled and optimised so that site users could quickly locate relevant content via site search, standard menu and cross-linking. This process was a collaborative one that involved stakeholder consultation, producing sitemap discussion documents and understanding the relative importance site visitors (e.g. managers, contractors) placed on each content area. ARES next undertook an appraisal of the initial intranet content – which had been largely migrated across from the earlier intranet – to ensure it was in line with the proposed style guide. Feedback was provided on areas of non-compliance and coaching was undertaken with content authors on bringing earlier content into line with current content publishing best practises

We were keen to not only exceed the design and functionality expectations of the school, but also deploy the project with as little fuss and imposition as possible. After all Brother Peter Corr and his team had a school to run! As well as providing assistance to migrate content across from the old site, SitEducate provided onsite training to both content authors and site administrators. Due to the demands of getting the site up quickly, an interim training focusing on updating the news and calendaring sections of the site was provided to the school administration team.

Working with visionary and technically competent school leadership would prove to be both enormously rewarding and challenging. Ros Moxham and David Osland both recognised from the outset the potential of engaging the wider school community via the web. They understood the communication and cost saving potential of online technology. The SitEducate platform would not only have to perform very well as a school website, but it would also need to function as a secure student portal.
